New Beginnings "The unknown isn't always comfortable but it's where the magic happens"

Karen O

January being traditionally a time of new beginnings offers us an opportunity to start again. This dark, frosty part of Winter is such a prime time of the year for going within to see what we really intend to create in our lives. When we set intentions from our mind without any real motivation behind them they can dwindle into insignificance as they don't really hold any worth to us. However when we give ourselves the chance to rest, be still and see what it is that our heart really wants for us we can create lasting change.

New beginnings are not always easy, when we can't see a clear path ahead. There is the need to trust that the path will unfold for our highest good, to surrender to this & the hard part is often giving ourselves the permission to rest and allow it to just unfold as it is meant to. Isn't it amazing that we often find the hardest thing to do is to just sit & allow ourselves a rest from the outside world. We often feel the need to seek permission for this space to just rest and allow our deepest wishes to communicate to us. How did we get to this place where rushing around is the norm and our deepest wishes & hearts yearnings come last?

Have you noticed if you are on that conveyer belt of rushing that often something will happen to make you stop, if you haven't been listening, life will make you listen. This could be in the form of illness, job loss or even loosing something or someone dear to us. At the time it is devastating until we look back and can see what a gift it is in putting us back on track again.

Today I gathered with a group of ladies of all ages in the monthly gathering I now call "The Lavender Gathering". The theme was new beginnings, something which emerged when I listened to what was needed for the group. It was a simple gathering where we gave ourselves permission to relax and unwind, permission to start listening to our body and notice how it is. Doing this some people notice a sore jaw, a painful back or a busy mind. It's all normal, we often forget everyone is having a fairly similar experience. The art of just stopping is something we have forgotten how to do, but these ladies managed it and so did I. We journaled our experiences and listened to what our body needs before checking in to see what deeper wishes & desires we have for our new beginnings. This is where the magic happens. I always create an aromatherapy balm for the group depending on the theme. As this was a womans group I created a balm with Rose, Geranium, Frankinsence & Lavender.

*Rose is the ultimate feminine & heart oil helping us to connect with our softer, feminine side

*Geranium is a balancing oil for hormones and in general health

*Frankinsence helps to still the mind and deepen the breath, it resonates with the lungs and it helps with wound healing including emotional wounds

*Then there is Lavender - The mother of essential oils, it cares for you when you can't care for yourself, bringing balance to your world.

When we treat our body with love and care we begin to hear the whispers of what our new beginning is and as we let the journal prompts settle an answer bubbles up to our awareness.

What we hear can be as simple as some of these messages.... "just allow time to listen a little more"or "to sleep or rest a bit more especially if we are exhausted". If we feel emotional tears can be a sign of relief, letting go or something else we just need to honour. There is nothing to be fixed or repaired we are human with a multitude of feelings which colour our world, we just need to allow what is being held inside to be processed and released outside. Just allowing is enough.

Sometimes it can be deeper such as realising we are carrying something that has been passed through generations that can finally be processed, spoken and released. What a privilege to do this for our lineage & future generations. Or it can be as simple as going home with a smile on our face, not a pretend or fake smile but our real smile that shines from inside out just because we have had a rest and connected with our true self again. It is often like taking off an old coat that has been too heavy to carry anymore and freeing ourselves to just be who we truly are. This is what connecting with our authentic self can be like. We might even find our authentic self is annoyed, triggered, lonely or frustrated but this awareness then leads us to see what message that feeling wishes to communicate to us and then we make a change for the better, it's a feeling that just wants to be heard. Once it is heard we can make a change and create a new beginning. Giving that little voice inside a chance to be heard rather than being pushed away yet again.

When we see we are all having simliar experiences we don't feel as isolated. We are all just looking to be the best version of ourselves and sometimes we need to listen to what we truly need to make this a reality. What do you need to allow yourself to help you to create your new beginning?

Light a candle for yourself & your new beginning, but before you do have a little listen to the voice inside.
